ANNOUNCEMENTS
10/3/2017: Announcements for Week of Oct 2
1. Thursday is our only game this week and it is Varsity only (no Wayland JV team). We are in need of 3 volunteers for concessions on Thursday -- I am hopeful that there are a few JV parents that would be willing to staff it from 6:30-8:00pm that night so that we can open it up. The deadline for signups is at Noon tomorrow (Wed), here's the link, please sign up ASAP if you are able. Thanks!
2. Thursday is also Senior Night, where we celebrate our seniors and their families. We will recognize each of them and their parents with a ceremony during the halftime break. Senior parents: please head down to the track at the north end of the stadium with about 5 minutes remaining in the 1st Half, where you and your son will be announced and be recognized on the field. We will begin ASAP once we hit halftime.
3. There is a Varsity team dinner, right after practice, at Jonathan Courts' abode on Wednesday this week. There was a really nice piece on MLive about Jonathan a couple days ago, in case you missed it :)
4. The Districts draw has taken place -- this is the MHSAA State Playoffs bracket for Varsity (JV season ends its season on 10/12, the last regular season game). Varsity will play its 1st Round game at FHN vs. FHN on Monday, Oct 16 at 6pm. It is single-elimination and a win would see us in the Semifinal on Wednesday, Oct 18 at 6:45pm at FHN. The Final is on Saturday, Oct 21 at 1pm at FHN. Varsity players/parents, please mark your calendars with these dates. Being at another FHPS venue, we will not have buses to these games per Transportation policy, so we will meet at FHN one hour prior to kickoff each date.
9/27:2017: Update to Announcements for the week of September 25
1. The reschedule of last week's EGR games has been finalized. The games will be played at EGR on Monday, October 9. JV kicks off at 5pm. Varsity will kick off at 6:45pm -- the Varsity game will resume where we left off: 29 seconds left in the 1st Half with EGR up by a score of 2-1, so the Varsity game that night will essentially be just a half-game. The bus will leave FHE at 3:40pm on that day.
2. The Wagamans will be hosting a Varsity team dinner on Oct 11, immediately after practice, since the originally-scheduled date is now the EGR reschedule.

9/5/2017:
- I have received the Signup Genius for concessions at our home game. Please sign up for one shift and we will be covered for the whole season! JV parents work the Varsity games, and vice-versa, so that you don't miss any of your son's games. Here is the link, please sign up early so we are not scrambling. A reminder that all concessions proceeds go to our Boosters, who do such a great job of supporting our programs - if we don't have enough volunteers for each game, we will not be able to open and Boosters gets nothing. Thank you for your help with this!!! Here is the link.
8/27/2017:
- Wayland has announced that it does not have a JV team. The game on Oct 5 is now Varsity only -- the schedule below has been adjusted. The athletic office has been working to replace those games on the JV schedule with other schools.

- Still need someone willing to film our games so the guys can use Hudl - again, please let me know if you can help!
- The list of Varsity team dinners is below the team rosters, about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Uniforms & Equipment
Each player will receive a black jersey and black shorts for away games and a white jersey and white shorts for home games. Each of these items is to be returned no later than the end of season awards banquet.
Players are responsible for their own socks: black (a solid black or the type with three white stripes at the top) for away games and a solid white (NO stripes at the top are allowed anymore) for home games.
Goalkeepers: must have numbered jerseys per state rules. The program is happy to reimburse goalkeepers for screenprinting costs. There must be a number on the front as well as the back of the jersey. All jerseys should be numbered either #1 or #0, you choose. There can be multiple goalkeepers with the same number on their jersey on each roster.
Shinguards: The players tend to prefer small shinguards. However, each set of shinguards have a height range either stamped on them or on a tag. Please check that the height range is at least close to your son's height -- if the ref thinks they are too small, the player will not be allowed to play!

MISCELLANEOUS
1. Concussions Protocol
* If a player is knocked during a game, the referee should notify the coach of a possible concussion. It is the coach's
responsibility to remove the player from competition for medical evaluation. It is the school's designated health care
professional's (athletic trainer) responsibility to determine whether the athlete can return to that competition.
* The athlete cannot return to competition without a note from an MD/DO/Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant.
* New in Fall 2016, the MHSAA requires that a Return to Activity Post-Concussion Consent Form be signed by an MD, DO, PA, or NP, as well as the athlete and parent, then submitted to the Athletic Office prior to the final step below.
* At FHE, once the signed above form is received, the athlete must receive passing grades from our athletic
trainer, Steve Retan, in a graduated testing program to ensure there are no recurring symptoms. Once this testing
program is complete, the player will be returned to competition. This can take up to a week.
2. Sportsmanship:
Please refrain from inappropriate language, insults toward opponents and referees, offensive and/or
abusive language and gestures. Please address our opponents the way you would like your child spoken to.
Referees have been instructed to give cards for inappropriate behavior. More importantly (than the threat of yellow/red
cards), I believe it is our responsibility to model appropriate behavior for the players on the field. I understand the
emotional component, but believe it is our responsibility to make sure that cooler heads prevail.
In general, players will begin to act inappropriately at a higher rate when the environment is heated. Please help our
players learn this very important life lesson: keep your composure, worry about the factors they can control (work rate,
playing at high level, maintaining concentration, etc) versus the factors they cannot control (referee's call, opponent's
actions, etc).
