NEW announcements
5/30/2018:
The Varsity playoff game tomorrow at Northview has been set for a 2pm kickoff.
Our bus will depart FHE at 12:40pm tomorrow. All players should wear the black uniforms and bring the whites just in case.
Varsity players will have a 12:25pm early dismissal. Thanks!
5/14/2018:
1. Seniors -- the OK Senior Soccer Showcase is set for June 20 at 7pm at Aquinas College. Select Seniors from across the OK Conferences will be chosen to participate in this charity game. If you are a senior, please reply to this message to let me know if you are available to participate if chosen. Thanks!
2. Lastly, being FHE Soccer Senior Week, there is a timely article on MLive about our senior class. Check it out!
5/7/2018:
1. Our Districts schedule (Varsity state playoffs) has been announced.
2. JV's last meeting of the season is at the game on Thursday, May 24. Varsity will take Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off for Memorial Day weekend -- we may practice in the evening on Monday (Memorial Day) -- I will include this in the future announcements as we get closer.
3. Team banquet -- every year, we have an end-of-the-season banquet to recognize all of the players on our JV and Varsity teams. We do food/drink, awards, uniform turn-in, etc. Keep an eye open for a future email with the details.
3/27/2018:
1. For our home games, we are required to have 2 ball runners to chase balls that go out of play. I am going to assign JV players to the Varsity games and Varsity players to do the JV games. Each player should only have to do one game this season. Varsity players should arrive by 4:45pm for their shift, while JV players will stay behind following the JV game to do their shift. Assignments are below the game schedule.
2. Thanks to our camerapeople for filming last night! Dave Rhodes did the JV game and I posted links just under the game schedule below. Cathy Przybysz did the Varsity game and uploaded it to Hudl. I will be making sure all Varsity players have a Hudl account set up so they can view the film. Watching video is an invaluable learning tool for us.

1. Our Districts schedule (Varsity state playoffs) has been announced.
- We will be hosting Greenville at 6pm on Tuesday, May 29.
- With a win, we will play the winner of Northview/Cedar Springs on Thur 5/31 at Northview -- the time is TBA, as it is Cedar's graduation night -- if we play Cedar, it will be a really weird kickoff (like 11am or 1pm), if we play Northview, it would be at 7pm.
- With a win in the previous game, we would play in the District Final vs the winner of FHN-Lowell on Saturday, June 2 at 5pm.

PRACTICE schedule
Our normal outdoor practice schedule will be in the FHE stadium from 3:00-4:30pm Monday through Friday on non-game days.
game day personnel
We are in need of volunteers for our home games!
We are responsible to staff the concessions stand. Varsity parents run it during the JV games, and vice-versa. We should have enough people so that we will be covered if each family takes one game this season.
We are also required to have ball runners for both the JV and Varsity games -- when the ball goes out of bounds, a ball-runner (who is carrying an extra game ball) makes a new ball available and chases down the one that went out of bounds. Varsity players will be ball-runners for the JV game and vice-versa. Assignments have been made and are in parenthesis in the game schedule above.

uniforms
Following tryouts, rostered players will be given 2 jerseys and 2 pair of shorts (home and away). These must be turned into the coaches at the end of the season.
Players will be wearing Nike socks this year and Coach Paul will have info upcoming about how/where to purchase these.
Players must also provide and wear appropriately-sized shinguards. If the shinguards are too small, the referee will not allow the player to play in the games.

MISCELLANEOUS
1. Concussions Protocol
* If a player is knocked during a game, the referee should notify the coach of a possible concussion. It is the coach's
responsibility to remove the player from competition for medical evaluation. It is the school's designated health care
professional's (athletic trainer) responsibility to determine whether the athlete can return to that competition.
* The athlete cannot return to competition without a note from an MD/DO/Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant
* At FHE, once the note from the above personnel is received, the athlete must receive passing grades from our athletic
trainer in a graduated testing program to ensure there are no recurring symptoms. Once this testing
program is complete, the player will be returned to competition. This can take up to a week.
2. Sportsmanship:
Please refrain from inappropriate language, insults toward opponents and referees, offensive and/or
abusive language and gestures. Please address our opponents the way you would like your child spoken to.
Referees have been instructed to give cards for inappropriate behavior. More importantly (than the threat of yellow/red
cards), I believe it is our responsibility to model appropriate behavior for the players on the field. I understand the
emotional component, but believe it is our responsibility to make sure that cooler heads prevail.
In general, players will begin to act inappropriately at a higher rate when the environment is heated. Please help our
players learn this very important life lesson: keep your composure, worry about the factors they can control (work rate,
playing at high level, maintaining concentration, etc) versus the factors they cannot control (referee's call, opponent's
actions, etc).
